Removal of stolen online courses from the violator’s site
The law firm conducted a successful action to remove the stolen online courses authored by our client from the infringer.
The law firm was approached by a medtech online course author. Some of his courses were illegally downloaded and then posted on an English-language website where users could download them for a fee.
Determining who the owner of the Internet domain was proved impossible without waiting for law enforcement. Contact information was not provided on the website or on the proof of purchase of the courses. Accordingly, the law firm decided to approach the hosting providers directly, to whom reminders were sent citing the relevant regulations of the Law on Copyright and Related Rights. At the same time, the law firm sent a corresponding letter to the search engine
operator Google to degrade the positioning of links leading to stolen courses. The stolen content was removed from the violator’s site within days.
Interestingly, in the course of investigating the case, the law firm’s team came across several other sites where the same stolen courses are offered. The case is therefore not over.
