Palace of Culture and Science – the fight for free public space

As part of our pro bono efforts, we have thrown down the gauntlet to those appropriating public space by reserving monuments as trademarks and demanding fees for photos with such objects.

The Palace of Culture and Science was the first to catch fire – we filed a more than 100-page application with the Polish Patent Office to invalidate the registration of a graphic mark with the image of the Palace of Culture and Science. We believe that you can’t charge for

filming objects permanently inscribed in the urban landscape, which are part of our heritage, especially since the Copyright Act provides for permitted use in the form of the panorama law.
